Dia De Los Muertos 2013 Part II: Valkyrie Rodeo, The Hand That Bleeds & Al-X, LIVE!
(Featuring a live performance by Valkyrie Rodeo, The Hand That Bleeds & Al-X on 1 November 2013 at The World Famous Kenton Club. )
What began as a chance to catch Metanoia live evolved into a fantastic opportunity to develop a three-part radio show, all due to the amazing efforts of Jonathan Boober. Jonathan has become a fantastic personality through all the work he’s done over the years, and having him make contributions to our show is always a pleasure. And with this show, we get three fantastic performances by local artists, as part of a two-day Dia De Los Muertos 2013 presentation.

Kicking things off is a fantastic set by Valkyrie Rodeo, doing a set of Dead Moon songs. Jonathan has brought them onto my show before, and they’ve always delivered the goods. Getting a chance to hear their interpretations of these Portland legends is a great way to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, and they set the stage for things to come.

I’ve been hearing about The Hand That Bleeds for some time now, and yet I haven’t had a chance to hear their stuff before. Let’s leave it to Boober to make sure that I get to catch them in a very stripped down fashion. There’s something about this video that manages to capture the late-night, drunk-a-thon that shows like this embody, and I very much regret leaving early this night. Fortunately, we have these recordings to show us what it was like.
Lastly, let’s close this episode with a synthed-out blast by Al-X, who brought his electronic patter to the denizens of The World Famous Kenton Club. I had no idea who Al-X was before Boober delivered this video, and listening now, I really want to check out this guy more. This sounds pretty incredible, and I think he is a good way to bring a show like this to a close.
Stay tuned, because Part III contains both bands from the 2 November 2013 show at Slim’s, with Blanco and Audios Amigos! Stay tuned.
And: Enjoy!
